Trust & Safety

How we work to keep the marketplace trustworthy for customers and surveyors alike.
Marine surveys are high-stakes work, often commissioned in unfamiliar ports under time pressure. Book My Survey ("BMS") is built to reduce that risk: surveyors are reviewed before they can take work, documents are handled carefully, and we stand behind a fair dispute process. Verification is a credibility check that supports your own due diligence — it is not a guarantee of any surveyor's work.
How surveyors are verified
Surveyors do not appear in customer search results until they have completed our onboarding and verification review.
- Profile and identity — surveyors submit their professional profile, experience and base port, and the contact and identity details needed to confirm who they are.
- Credentials reviewed before listing — certificates of competency, qualifications and any relevant accreditations are uploaded and reviewed by our admin team before the surveyor can list and quote.
- Approval and badge — once the review is satisfied, the surveyor is approved and shown with a verified badge. Profiles that fail review are not listed.
- Ongoing standards — ratings and reviews from completed surveys feed back into a surveyor's reputation, and we may re-review or remove a surveyor whose conduct or credentials no longer meet our standards.
Secure document handling
- Credentials, vessel documents and reports are stored on reputable cloud infrastructure with encryption in transit and access controls.
- Documents are shared only with the parties who need them — for example, a booked surveyor receives the details required to carry out your survey, and you receive the report.
- For full detail on how we handle personal data, see our Privacy Policy.
Resolving disputes
If something goes wrong with a booking, contact us and we will help mediate in good faith, reviewing the booking record, communications and evidence from both sides. Cancellation and refund outcomes follow our Refund & Cancellation Policy.
BMS is a marketplace and does not adjudicate the technical accuracy of a survey report; disagreements about professional findings are between the customer and the surveyor, who is the professional of record.
What customers should check
- Insurance — confirm the surveyor holds appropriate professional indemnity and liability cover for your survey.
- Experience and specialisation — check that their experience matches your vessel type and the survey you need.
- Ratings and reviews — read feedback from previous customers and the number of surveys completed.
- Scope — agree the scope, limitations and deliverables in writing before work begins.
